Free Art Therapy Group- For Queer and Disabled Folks

Group description: Join Open Your Art for an 8 week trauma relief art therapy group in collaboration with A Beaumont (they/them).

When: Mondays from 1:30-3:00pm at 732 Charlotte Street, Room 102. It will run for 8 weeks from November 24 2025 to January 26 2026 (no group December 22 and 29).

Who is it for: 2SLGBTQIA+ and/or disabled adults above 25 who want to explore trauma relief through peer connection, identity exploration and mixed media art making. This group is free, physically and sensory accessible, and open to all levels of creative abilities. All art materials will be provided for free in the studio. 

How We Define Disabled: Rooted in disability justice it includes but is not limited to: self or professionally diagnosed mental, physical, intellectual, chronic, invisible, MAD, Deaf/HOH, Blind, neurodiverse and multi-layered disabilities.

Why Art Therapy

Art therapy is a combination of art making and talk therapy, where you can explore personal experiences, themes and challenges through creative expression. Art therapy acts as a tool to navigate things that may be hard to express with words. You do not need to be an artist or art maker to participate in art therapy!

Who is A?

A. Beaumont (they/them) is a white settler, queer, trans, disabled, neurodivergent and fat artist, community organizer and Art Therapy Intern (DTATI Candidate). A is passionate about accessibility, community care, mutual aid and resistance. They work from a trauma-informed and disability justice framework with a focus on personal and collective joy, resistance and healing. With over 8 years of experience in art and organizing spaces, they are so excited to begin their Art Therapy Internship with Open Your Art!

Policies:

KN95 masks are required and provided in the space as a commitment to community care and safety. 

(A room sized HEPA filter will be running through every session for air filtration)

If you are experiencing any illness symptoms (cough, fever, sore throat, runny nose etc.) please let us know and do not come into the studio. If you have been in contact with anyone who has been ill or tested positive for COVID-19, please let us know and do not come into the studio.
